Hello {{ subscriber.name }},
The date was January 6, 1977.
Only 22 days before "The Shining" was published by Doubleday.
The promotion of the new book had been well under way.
During a fund-raising telethon by the local PBS station, Mrs. Helen Goodine, a school teacher from Mexico, Maine, made a generous contribution.
Helen was a supporter of new and upcoming authors (especially from Maine) and also of the PBS broadcasting station.
In return, as a gesture of appreciation, Stephen King was kind enough to inscribe
copies of his first two published novels to her, Carrie and 'Salem's Lot. You can imagine the thrill as a fan to have received these books!
46 years in the same family
Helen would end up keeping these signed books for many years, eventually giving them to her grand-daughter, who is also a huge King fan.
These two signed books by King have been kept and cherished by the same family for the past 46 years.
Today is the day you have the great opportunity to treasure them for many more years to come, as they pass down from one generation to the next.
Proof of provenance.
The two books will arrive with a hand-written signed note by the grand-daughter of Helen Goodine, as
proof of provenance and history.
Two Stephen King rare books with a story to tell:
Carrie is a signed first edition / first printing. It is
inscribed to Helen Goodine and dated January 6, 1977
'Salem's Lot is a signed first edition/ second printing with third state dust-jacket. It is also inscribed to Helen Goodine and dated January 6, 1977
An incredible find, and highly suitable for the avid Stephen King collector.
