April 21st, 2023 The Stand - Artwork Portfolio
Hello {{ subscriber.name }} In 1984, Stephen King asked Berni Wrightson to begin work on illustrating the complete version of The Stand, which would later be published in 1990. Wrightson began his career in 1966 as an illustrator for The Baltimore Sun newspaper.. In 1968, he was hired by DC Comics and was a regular artist on the House of Mystery and House of Secrets horror titles. Wrightson and writer Len Wein created Swamp Thing in House of Secrets #92 (July 1971). The character soon received its own monthly series, which Wrightson drew the first ten issues for. In 1974, Wrightson began working for Warren Publishing magazines. Wrightson illustrated adaptions of works by well-known horror writers, including "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe and "Cool Air" by H. P. Lovecraft. He is also well known for drawing comic book adaptations of Stephen King's screenplay for Creepshow in 1982, which led to several more collaborations with King. Wrightson spent several years creating an illustrated edition of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein, which was released in 1983. Later in his career,
Wrightson provided concept art for various films and television series. The artwork portfolio for The Stand was published by Glimmer Graphics in 1990. It included12 beautiful Pen & Ink drawings and was available in
two editions: Edition 1 - 1991 Signed Limited of 1200
- 13 plates in gold foil stamped black
folder
- Signature plate illustration done for portfolio and not in book
- The "BONUS PLATE", Randall Flagg, is personally signed by Berni Wrightson.
Edition 2 - 1991 Regular Unlimited Trade Edition
- 12 plates in silver foil stamped blue folder
You can now own Number 1043 of Edition 1 , signed by Wrightson. This artwork portfolio is now over 30 years old and there are only a few available for collectors. Given its age, this one is almost in perfect condition, with a touch of age toning on the edge of a couple of the plates. This portfolio includes the original packaging from Glimmer Graphics, the protective papers, along with the cardboard insert, which has their stamped return address.
